Psystar is back on its feet! (not), but there is an alternative: Quo
Psystar already killed itself (filed for Chapter 11), but people still won’t give up the idea of the Mac Clones. Quo Computer is the next brave company that’s willing to fight Apple for this. By the way, the founder of the company, De Silva, is a die-hard Apple fanboy. He is a Mac user since 1984.
The company release the statement that they will open up their first retail location (a physical store) in LA on June 1st. They also plan to launch their website, quocomputer.com, next week.
Quo Computer, like Psystar, will start off in the desktop market; afterwards, they want to move into the Mac Mini (home entertainment) market. De Silva also plan to get these machines to the local school boards. They also can ship their machines world wide.
The pricing of these machines is not yet set; but De Silva said that they are going to be around/less than $900. The spec of these machines are not released; however, we know that it’s going to have Leopard pre-installed, and it will come in 3 flavors: the Life Q, Pro Q, and Max Q.
Apple did not comment on this, yet. They will most likely sue the brave Quo Computer. Even De Silva himself said that “they probably will [sue].” What’s ironic about this is that you have to accept Apple’s EULA while buying this machines, and Apple’s EULA forbids the Mac OS to run on anything but an Apple branded computer.
I’m totally for all Apple Clones. I just hate Apple with their proprietary sh*t. Things needs to be more opened up! Even MS is doing a better job at this. I certainly hope that Quo/Psystar win in court; but with the money that they have, it’s probably not going to happen.

You said you hated Apple’s closed attitude. But isn’t it the closed vertically-integrated market that has generated the quality that Applie by and large demonstrates? We have quite a number of open examples in the market place already. Frought with viruses and malware, mountains of low-grade non-standards-compliant software, confusing IT requirements that a normal non-IT user will never master. Is that a win?
I for one am glad that when I call Apple for support there are only a limited number of models for them to master, with a limited number of hardware options. That’s the only reason we have computers that consistently work better.
@Confused
You are definitely right about this, but “closed attitude” is not going to solve anything. It will definitely make a lot of people angry. The iPhone app store is a great example.
Other companies can offer the support for Mac OS X. In some cases maybe even better. Especially if they follow the success of Apple. Limited number of machines. Tightly configured. They can also give better support to the Music, Media and Production house customers almost like a consultant. $885 for a quad system is amazing.
