Other companies can offer the support for Mac OS X. In some cases maybe even better. Especially if they follow the success of Apple. Limited number of machines. Tightly configured. They can also give better support to the Music, Media and Production house customers almost like a consultant. $885 for a quad system is amazing.

<a href="#comment-9" rel="nofollow">@Confused </a>
You are definitely right about this, but "closed attitude" is not going to solve anything. It will definitely make a lot of people angry. The iPhone app store is a great example.

You said you hated Apple's closed attitude. But isn't it the closed vertically-integrated market that has generated the quality that Applie by and large demonstrates? We have quite a number of open examples in the market place already. Frought with viruses and malware, mountains of low-grade non-standards-compliant software, confusing IT requirements that a normal non-IT user will never master. Is that a win?

I for one am glad that when I call Apple for support there are only a limited number of models for them to master, with a limited number of hardware options. That's the only reason we have computers that consistently work better.
