Pre Wrap up: The Launch and The Surgery
After months of waiting, the legendary Palm Pre finally launches today across the US. Unfortunately for me, I cannot get one here in Canada, although Bell promises that the Palm Pre will come to Canada.
Many Pre customers started lining up at Wal-mart, Radio Shack, and other retail location at 5AM this morning. One woman even made a “drive-thru” trip to the Sprint Store yesterday night.
The story of limited numbers of the Pre is proven to be true. The quantity varies from store to store; some have 9, some have 100. Personally I think this would be enough for the early adopters. The lines at these stores aren’t huge either, although definitely noticeable.
Right after the launch, some “Pre-porn” has been released: a detailed instruction on how to tear open the Pre has been released by Rapid Repair. It’s also estimated that the Pre costs about $170 to build. Consider the $1878.76 you will pay (minimum) over the course of the contract, Palm and Sprint will make good money out of this thing, if they can keep up with demand.
