Microsoft is giving Windows 7 Beta testers a free copy of Win 7 Ultimate… Invites only

Windows 7 Ultimate Edition

Windows 7 has been released to manufacture a couple of days ago, the thing has been set in stone. Being a Windows 7 Beta tester (public), you will certainly hold your breath when you read a blog headline that says “Showing Our Thanks to Windows 7 Beta Testers…” on the Windows blog, especially after they have given away Windows Vista Ultimate last time.

So, the good news is: If you got invited into the private Windows 7 beta testing, you get a free, final copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. The bad news is: If you are like me, who used the Windows 7 Public Beta, and Windows 7 RC and sent a lot of feedback, you won’t getting anything. You can technically get a $50 (or $65 if you are in Canada) copy of Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade and install it without a legal Windows Vista copy, but you cannot reinstall the O/S later on, you’ll have to have Windows Vista installed. (Also, that deal is over if you are in Canada and the US).

Microsoft said:

To show our appreciation, members of the invitation-only Windows 7 Technical Beta Program will be eligible for a free, final copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. For more information on how to take advantage of this, refer to Paul (Donnelly)’s post in the .Beta_Program newsgroup for details.

Well, at least Microsoft did the right thing of giving some of their users a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate unlike what they said last week, which made a whole lot of users pretty mad.

Last time, Windows Vista user who found a bug can get a free copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. This time, Microsoft is basically saying: “Thank you for testing Windows 7. Thanks for all your bug reports. Bye! Oh! By the way, the reason you are not getting Windows 7 for free even though you did a lot, is because you are not special enough.”

Oh well, at least I got my Windows 7 Home Premium for $54.99 (Canada) with a coupon from Twitter.
