Bell will offer the Palm Pre in Canada starting Aug 27th

Palm Pre comes to Canada on Aug 27th

If you go to Palm’s Canadian website, you’ll find that the Palm Pre will be coming to Canada, starting August 27th. Bell also set up a special website, http://pre.bell.ca, to allow people to Pre-order (no puns intended) their Pres.

The Pre will sell for $199.95 from Bell.ca with a 3 year contract of minimum $45/month plan, which includes a <sarcasm>generous</sarcasm> 500MB of data and various amount of talk time and SMS. There is also a $60 plan for unlimited data and $100 plan for other extras.

So let me break this down for you.

Initial Cost

Phone: $199.95
Activation Fee: $35.00
Total After Taxes: $265.49

Monthly Cost (minimum)

Rate Plan: $45
Standard Fee (System Access + 911): $7.70
Total After Taxes: $59.55

Total Cost (3 years): $2409.33

That is quite expensive for a smart phone.

If you don’t want to pay the $2409.33, you can buy the locked phone for $599.95. You can still only buy plans from Bell if you don’t unlock the phone.
