Sony unveils to 2 new model of its e-reader line

Sony Reader Touch

The release date & Canadian Pricing of the Sony Reader is up! http://thekks.net/499

Sony just released 2 new models of their ebook series, a 5’’, pocket size reader that costs $199 (US) and a touch screen reader that costs $299 (US). They will be available in the end of August.

The pocket edition reader, is designed to be the e-reader of “every man and woman” (via ZDNet). It only costs $199, which seems to be affordable. This price will be jacked up in Canada to about $249 because “Canada has a smaller market” (via That Employee in the Sony Style Store I visited). This version of the reader will be available in blue, rose, and silver. It will not come with a keyboard, so there won’t be any note taking in this version of the reader. Also, this edition can carry about 350 books (not expandable, 512MB)

The touch reader has a nice touchscreen (obviously), which enables a soft keyboard, allowing notes to be taken. It also comes with an onboard Oxford American English Dictionary, which is a nice bonus. It will come with a SD card slot; this will allow you to put your music in there, and bring it with you. This version of the reader with come in red, black, and silver with a retail price of $299, which will be jacked up to $349 in Canada due to the fact that “Canada has a smaller market”. (F*ck you too Sony)

Both edition of the reader will replaces the current 505 and 700 respectively. Still no Wi-Fi, and still no color.

Although the price will be jacked up, I’m still buying it. It’s better than the current price of  $449.99 for the 700.
