Macs have viruses, Apple know it, but too afraid to admit it.

It seems like just days ago that Apple released another Mac vs PC commercial that claimed Mac has no viruses. It looks like that Snow Leopard will have a hidden anti-virus feature. It has layers of protection when a drive is inserted into the computer (;) ). It also checks for viruses and malware before you mount .PKG and .DMG files. It’s also an invisible app running in the background, like all the Windows antivirus software.

This ad from Apple just increased the irony by FALSE ADVERTISING that Macs have no viruses.

Let me tell you something, every single piece of software has security holes. Every single operating system have viruses. Stop making fun of Windows just because it has a major market share. We’re tired of these Mac vs PC ads!

In the mean while, I’m going to work on a cross-platform virus.

Update: it turns out that “Anti-malware” protects you from only 2 Trojans. What a waste of resource. Get Avast! for Mac people.

    Lemme correct you: Apple has NEVER stated Macs have no viruses. They just say that
    1) Mac OS isn’t vulnerable to most of the viruses and
    2) Mac OS has a decent security system – you even posted a picture of it.
    What’s all the deal with “being afraid” is beyond me.

    In case of Windows & Linux, if an anti-virus system is embedded into the system, it will be a big feature to advertise. In case of Mac, if an anti-virus system is embedded into the system, Apple don’t want anyone to know about it.

    @Ultimatebuster They don’t have any embedded AV, but Safari’s download checker is good. And there are very little security holes in the OS. (Although, if one is found, there’s great hype about it – finally, one on Mac OS! W00t!) The security is similar to the one of Linux, as both OSs are built on Unix.

    Fine, I know Apple don’t want to call it Anti-Virus, let’s call it Anti-Malware.
    I know, Virus is such a Windows thing :P

    @Ultimatebuster Lol that was funny. Anyhow, I checked Apple’s site and found out that they indeed have a full security system. Why the heck do you think ‘Apple don’t want anybody to know about it’? They have even made a page for Mac OS’s security features. See here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/security/

    I’m a Mac user and I have to say that yeah, I’m really afraid now. I mean, now there are viruses, in a quantity we never have been accustomed to. Apple is clearly not doing its job. These two viruses are really freaking me out! It’s like, the number of viruses exploded! It’s not multiplied by 2, or by 3, it’s even more!
    Plus with Apple claiming that there aren’t “thousand of viruses” in Macs; they’re right, but they’re saying it like two viruses don’t matter. But they do! It’s like, it’s like… it’s *huge* for us MacUsers who never saw any virus!
    Oh excuse me, I’m about to pass out, all this is so exhausting… I think I’m gonna switch to Puppy Linux and don’t connect my computer to Internet anymore. Yeah, that’s the right thing to do.

    Maybe just throw out the computer? That will keep you safe. :D

    @JustWatching
    Apple included a little protection&removal tool in Snow Leopard for those two viruses. They intentionally didn’t make any hype about it, as by now, the tool isn’t exactly powerful. (Most likely they will develop it into something bigger, but what it is currently will do it for now.) Every serious computer user, disregarding the OS – Mac OS, Linux, or Windows – should get an AV. Apple also recommends you to do so.
    @Ultimatebuster
    Even that won’t keep you safe from ALL viruses… *hint hint* flu anyone? ;-)

    @KsbjA
    You need double layers of protection (hint: s*x)

    Anyways, Mac still sucks.
