Great Firewall of Australia: Thunder Down Under

Ultimatebuster’s Edit: All italicized texts are by me. b4nd1t is becoming a regular

I’m being serious here (yeah, right):

The Internet is one of the last few places where free and uncensored information can be shared. However, no matter what new media surfaces, there are always somebody trying to stop the truth.

One of the first places to do this was China (wow I don’t approve this, but fair enough). They have blocked access to many sites, including Youtube, Wikipedia, cnn.com, Myspace, Google, and Twitter, just to name a few. But this is almost expected, as China is an [cencored by ultimatebuster] [cencored by ultimatebuster].

But there is another nation trying to do much the same thing, one you wouldn’t expect (actually, I do). Australia.

Kevin Rudd, the Prime Minister of Australia (or Ruddkips, as I like to call him) and Stephen Conroy the minister of broadband and new communications have a plan for a mandatory, nation wide internet filter. Our good freinds down at Wikileaks have provided us with a list of the filtered sites. Although most of the sites being blocked are sites that no decent human being should ever visit, alot of them are legal, innocent sites.

Among them being:

  • 4chan’s /b/ board, along with several other *chans, such as 7chan. (I don’t even want to say their name, but fair enough. We love you 4chan here at KKSNetwork!)
  • 4 wikipedia articles
  • 4 youtube accounts (NOTE: i have checked these youtube accounts, and all have since been suspended)
  • 19 non gambling poker sites
  • a dentist’s office (Rather strange)
  • and of course, wikileaks

Not only would blocking these sites stifle free speech, but it would also slow Australian Internet user’s browsers by up to 70%.

I do not live in Australia. However, this is dangerous, as leaders of other countries could pick up on the idea.

The choice is clear, the filter must be stopped. Or the other way around, all the countries in the world could just license the firewall technology from China (which is nearly perfect), and implement it everywhere. Also, we could start another Twitter black avatar campaign thingie that won’t help.

If you want to see the list of blocked sites  for yourself, visit THIS NSFW SITE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED AND KKSNETWORK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHATEVER LINKS THAT’S IN THAT TXT FILE!

Sorry for the caps lock.
